Helen Parker's
article ("Walking in Both Worlds," ALR, Oct/Nov 1998, pp. 15) brought
back memories (and tears!) reminding me of the day when my mouth was washed
out with soap for talking in class in my native Lakota. I'm sure glad
to hear that, these days, Native American kids are taught English with
proper respect to their cultural heritage.
